Abstract:
Summative OSCE used to evaluate 3rd year medical students' knowledge of geriatric assessment. Students are required to evaluate a geriatric standardized patient with cognitive impairment and history of a fall.
Educational objectives:
- Assess the functional ability of the older adult during a focused office visit
- Demonstrate understanding of why a focus on function is important
- Demonstrate the components of a geriatric functional assessment
- Demonstrate use of assessment tools
- Develop strategies to integrate a geriatric assessment into a short visit
- Demonstrate skills to enhance communication with older patients
