Abstract: 

This podcast focuses on the appropriate role of medication and ECT in the treatment of depression in older adults, the efficacy and risks/benefits of different classes of antidepressant medications, the strategies for effective prescribing of antidepressants, and the use of augmentation as well as combination therapy. 

Educational objectives: 
  1. The appropriate role for medication and ECT in the treatment of depression in older adults.
  2. The efficacy and risks/benefits of different classes of antidepresant medications including SSRI's, Tri Cyclics, MAOI's, NSRI's and NRDI's.
  3. Strategies for effective prescribing of antidepressants and the use of augmentation and combination therapy.
