Geriatric Nephrology Curriculum
American Society of Nephrology
Peer reviewedDeveloped by the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) Geriatrics Task Force, based on the ACGME's six core competencies, the 38 chapters of the Geriatric Nephrology Curriculum address the most significant aspects of caring for aging patients with kidney disease, including assessing GFR in the elderly, drug dosing and renal toxicity, management of ESRD in elderly patients, and end of life decision making. This product provides two of the 38 chapters of the curriculum: Chapter 5 "Rate of decline in eGFR and clinical evaluation of elderly with a low eGFR" by Rosemarie Shim and Ann O'Hare; and Chapter 17 "Fluid Balance Disorders in the Elderly" by Myron Miller. To view full curriculum, please follow the product URL. The curriculum is freely available to all ASN members and other members of the renal community, to physicians and other providers. Also available on the ASN site are the presentations (with audio) from the 2-day course "Geriatric Nephrology: An Epidemiologic and Clinical Challenge" that was offered at Renal Week 2008. Both the Geriatric Nephrology Curriculum and the 2-day course received funding from the ASP project, "Integrating Geriatrics into the Specialties of Internal Medicine: Moving Forward from Awareness to Action." The course was created in conjunction with the International Society of Geriatric Nephrology and Urology (ISGNU).
The goal of the Geriatric Nephrology Curriculum is to provide an educational structure for teaching geriatric nephrology to fellows.
