Abstract: 

This on-line, asynchronous e-learning course is designed to serve as a multidisciplinary, self-study curriculum to quickly educate and assess learners' knowledge, skills and attitudes in the area of home care. The content is presented as modules that address: introduction to home care, functional assessment, provider roles in home care, Medicare eligibility regulations and billing, and senior housing and care options. Content is presented using video clips, diagrams, text, and power point slides. Course activities include polls, e-mails to/from the instructor, and quizzes. The course may be completed all at once or as modules with total time to completion ranging from 1.5 hrs to 2.5 hrs. To access this product, users will have to register with the Medical College of Wisconsin via the website provided. Any inquiries may be directed to Dr. Kathryn Denson at [email protected].

Educational objectives: 

For each of the following ACGME competency areas, the learner will be able to: 1. Medical Knowledge: list home care team members and services available for patient care, list three physician roles in home care. 2. Systems Based Practice: list the five Medicare requirements for reimbursement of home care services; correctly apply Medicare reimbursement requirements to home care patient scenarios, list and define key distinguishing features of varying types of senior housing and care options. 3. Patient Care: use functional assessment tools (memory screen, depression scale, functional assessment) to better define patients' ability to live independently, merge knowledge of senior living options with patient functional assessment to make recommendations of possible housing and care arrangements.

On-line curriculum can be accessed through Angel or other blackboard platform. https://campus.mcw.edu/Campus/frameIndex.htm For purposes of sharing the module, interested individuals would need to contact the author to discuss what e-learning platform they have access to so that the module can be copied and downloaded into that platform (e.g., from ANGEL to BlackBoard, D2L, etc).
