Abstract:

This is a two-part PowerPoint presentation that was originally developed to interface with an audience response system. The presentations were made in community physicians' offices and each part was delivered in approximately one hour by a geriatrics faculty member. As part of the presentation, participants received a variety of handout materials including copies of the two PowerPoint presentations, details of cases described in the PowerPoint presentations, patient education handouts, and reference materials. A teaching guide, in addition to the materials that were used by faculty for the presentations, is included in this product.

Educational objectives:

To provide an overview of the complications of multiple prescriptions used in the elderly. The learner will be able to: 1) Review the challenges of prescribing for the vulnerable seniors, 2) Examine risks factors for adverse drug events, 3) Propose strategies to improve prescribing outcomes, and 4) Suggest resources available for continual support in managing medications in seniors.

Additional information/Special implementation requirements or guidelines:

The audience for this product were 110 practicing primary care physicians (family physicians and general internists). Presentations were made in practitioners' offices. The original implementation paired the PowerPoint presentations to an audience response system.

Very much liked the slides and the format of the questions.  Multiple med lists to be analyzed is very good for trainees.  Used it with 1st year residents with small group format and very good feedback.  The notes that go with the slides are extremely useful, suggest all the slides come with detailed notes.  Also suggest the slides have the Beers list right on the slide, I added it in for my group.
