Description of the product: 

Continuing Mobile Education for EMS Providers is a video vodcast-based education program that includes interviews from physicians, EMTs, paramedics, and patients to help the EMS Provider give patients better care. The program was created to address the need for more "on-demand" educational opportunities for EMS Providers. Each month, a new block of four 10-minute vodcasts is posted to the program website, http://www.rochesterems.org/.

In the Procedures block of podcasts, you will learn about performing four common prehospital procedures on older adults: spinal immobilization, intravenous access, airway management, and evaluating and transporting patients with hip fractures.

Educational objectives: 

Episode 1: Spinal Immobilization
- Review the indications for spinal immobilization in the older adult
- Be aware of the potential challenges in applying spinal immobilization in older adults

Episode 2: Establishing Intravenous Access
- Understand the importance of vascular access in older adults
- Understand changes in skin and vasculature which affect the ability to obtain vascular access
- Learn strategies to optimize attempts at peripheral vascular access
- Learn how BLS technicians can aid ALS technicians in establishing vascular access

Episode 3: Airway Management
- Know the indications for intubating the older adult in the prehospital setting
- Be aware of special considerations for the intubation of geriatric patients
- Understand proper technique for ventilating an intubated older adult in the prehospital setting
- Review BLS airway device use in older adults

Episode 4: Evaluating and Transporting Suspected Hip Fractures
- Know the epidemiology of hip fractures
- Understand the morbidity and mortality associated with hip fractures in the elderly
- Understand the key physical findings in hip fractures
- Understand the key considerations when transporting a patient with a suspected hip fracture
