Description of the product: 

Continuing Mobile Education for EMS Providers is a video vodcast-based education program that includes interviews from physicians, EMTs, paramedics, and patients to help the EMS Provider give patients better care. The program was created to address the need for more "on-demand" educational opportunities for EMS Providers. Each month, a new block of four 10-minute vodcasts is posted to the program website, http://www.rochesterems.org/.

In the Polypharmacy block of vodcasts, you will learn the definition and significance of polypharmacy, some reasons why patients don't take their medications and ways to improve compliance, the reasons why older adults are more susceptible to altered mental status from medication and some common causes, and the signs of drug overdose and common medication combinations that may cause it.

Educational objectives: 

Episode 1: What are you taking?
- The Complete Pharmaceutical History
- Participants will be informed that older adults usually take multiple medications
- Participants will understand the importance of the prehospital pharmaceutical history
- Participants will learn the components of a complete pharmaceutical history

Episode 2: Did You Take Your Pills Today?
- Evaluating Medication Compliance
- Participants will know the epidemiology of medication non-compliance
- Participants will identify obstacles to medication compliance
- Participants will learn practical strategies to assess medication compliance

Episode 3: His Medicine Makes Him Like This
- Medications and Altered Mental Status
- Participants will understand the impact of medications on a patient's mental status
- Participants will be able to identify the most common medications that can cause altered mental status

Episode 4: He Took How Many?!?
- Recognizing Medication Toxicity
- Participants will recognize the common signs of medication toxicity
- Participants will recognize the most common drug interactions and their effects in the prehospital setting
- Participants will review the basic steps for prehospital treatment of a drug overdose

To use this product, you must have a high speed internet connection and speakers. You may choose to view the vodcasts in high or low resolution, or you may view them on Youtube.
