Continuing Mobile Education for EMS Providers is a video vodcast-based education program that includes interviews from physicians, EMTs, paramedics, and patients to help the EMS Provider give patients better care. The program was created to address the need for more "on-demand" educational opportunities for EMS Providers. Each month, a new block of four 10-minute vodcasts is posted to the program website, http://mlrems.org/page.php?55. In the Safety and the Older Adult block of podcasts, you will learn about safety issues that impact patients and prehospital providers. Topics covered include fire safety, fall prevention, smoking safety, and microorganism in prehospital care.
Episode 1: Fire Safety
- Identify common fire hazards in the older adult's residence
- Made aware of community resources to aid in fire prevention
Episode 2: Fall Prevention
- Review common fall hazards and causes for falls
- Learn how EMS can help prevent falls in the older adult
- Made aware of community resources available for older adults at risk for falls
Episode 3: Smoking Safety
- Review fire hazards associated with smoking
- Learn strategies to help older adults reduce fire hazards associated with smoking
- Learn about cessation resources available to older adults
Episode 4: Microorganism in Prehospital Care
- Learn about infectious organisms like ORSA, MRSA, VRE and C. Difficile
- Understand how these organisms can be problematic for the older adult
- Review ways to prevent the spread of these bacteria
