Abstract: 

A web module for self-study that investigates the epidemiology of depression in the elderly, its diagnosis, treatment and sequelae.

Educational objectives: 

Students should be able to: 1) describe the epidemiology of depression in the elderly and treatment options for depression. 2) administer the geriatric depression scale. 3) describe how the clinical presentation of depression may be different among older adults. 4) list risk factors for suicide.

Additional information/Special implementation requirements or guidelines: 

Approximately 1,400 third year medical students at University of Kansas School of Medicine have completed this module.
