Update From 2016 Reynolds Foundation Grantee Annual Meeting

POGOe lives on!

Following the October Reynolds meeting we received a number of questions regarding POGOe and web-GEMs. So we want to make clear the future of both.

POGOe site

Starting in mid-2017, the POGOe website will be hosted and maintained by the AGS and materials will be available for free for the foreseeable future. Changes on POGOe are currently in the works to improve navigation and enhance the user experience, but you will still be able to enjoy access to the POGOe educational material that you know and love. For more information please reach out to Elvy Ickowicz.

Web-GEMs

Web- GEMs geriatrics teaching modules will continue to be hosted and available for access through POGOe until July, 2017. Starting in July 2017, the web-GEMS modules will be moved to Med-U. If your institution created web-GEMs assignments before September 2016, you will be “grandfathered” into web-GEMs on Med-U and will have free access to web-GEMs through June, 2018. If your institution was not grandfathered in, Med-U will begin to charge a fee to use web-GEMs commencing in July 2017. More information on that pricing will be available soon. In the meanwhile, if you have any questions about this transition please reach out to Elvy Ickowicz.

Plenary slides, meeting agenda, virtual goodybag from the 2016 Reynolds Meeting can be accessed here.

POGOe Tips & Hacks

Geriatrics Wizard Looking for materials that address a specific AAMC Geriatric Competency for Medical Students? Consult the Geriatrics Wizard! In this section of POGOe you can quickly and easily find Educational Materials or Web-GEMs under the precise competency you wish to cover. All 26 competencies are individually matched with multiple materials.

McMasters Evidence Updates
Quality and relevance-rated citations from McMaster University, Canada to the latest journal articles in the field of geriatrics from over 120 premier clinical journals. Some articles are designated as ‘stellar’ based on high ratings for clinical relevance and newsworthiness. Evidence updates can be used to help ‘keep up’ with the literature or to identify articles for review at journal club.

Bookmarks
In order to easily save and organize the materials and resources you frequently use on POGOe.org make use of our bookmark function. Simply click on the bookmark button and the material will be stored in Bookmarks under My Account. This will save precious time searching for your favorite materials. You can also sort the bookmarked items by title and date bookmarked. Furthermore, each page on POGOe is now shareable via email, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Google+.

Video Library
Videos extracted from POGOe materials available for use in teaching and as trigger tapes. For example, videos on components of geriatric assessments, screening osteopathic examination, focused neurological examination in a patient with falls, communication in a geriatric medical encounter can be used to illustrate specific teaching points effectively.

FD~AGE Mini-Fellowships

The Mini-Fellowships in Geriatrics, Medical Education, and Quality Improvement are 3-day faculty development programs, customized for each campus and intended to ‘Geriatricize’ non-geriatrician faculty. Mount Sinai’s geriatrics experts help develop a cadre of attending faculty to become more effective educators who can teach, assess trainee competence, and engage together in QI to improve patient safety.
