Behavioral and Psychiatric Symptoms of Dementia (Mrs. Williams-Owens)
You are asked to see Mrs. Williams-Owens, a 79 year old female with type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, urinary incontinence (urge type), stroke 10 yrs ago, coronary artery disease (myocardial infarction 5 yrs ago), and dementia (vascular and Alzheimer disease, mixed-type) , who was admitted from the hospital to a skilled nursing facility.

Sexuality in Older Adults (Mr. Hernandez)
Your first patient in an outpatient primary care clinic is a 72-year-old gentleman, Mr. John Hernandez. He has been a primary care patient in the practice for a few years. He was followed by another physician in the practice who has recently retired, and this is his first appointment with you. As with his previous visits, he reports being generally healthy and reports no specific concerns. On the pre-visit questionnaire that he filled out in the waiting room, however, he indicated that he has lost about 15 lbs. in the past 6 months.

Restraints (Mr. Samuel)
Mr. Samuel is an 85-year-old man who was sent to the Emergency Room for treatment of pneumonia. You are on your medical rotation and your resident asks you to admit him. You learn from his transfer documents that he has lived in the nursing home for the past two years. His medical problems include: dementia, significant enough that he can no longer recognize his family members and needs help with dressing and bathing, although he can still walk with a cane and feed himself; and, hypertension, for which he takes a beta blocker and aspirin. Surgical history is significant for a hernia repair and cholecystectomy.

2016 Reynolds Foundation Grantee Annual Meeting

The 2016 Donald W. Reynolds Foundation Grantee Annual Meeting is open to a limited number of clinician-educators from non-Reynolds Foundation sponsored schools. An applicant must be an MD or DO, involved in teaching medical students, residents or fellows or faculty at a U.S. medical school or teaching hospital, not funded by the Donald W. Reynolds grant.

This annual 2½ day meeting is for all levels of clinician-educators in geriatrics and focuses on developing leadership skills and professional development.

Physicians at all levels, from novice to experts in the field of geriatrics, are welcome to apply. Application submission deadline is Thursday, September 15, 2016. Space is limited; first-come, first-served. For more information please click here.
